In many countries, independent election observers audit the vote tabulation process using a rigorous statistically representative sampling process called the PRVT (more details on the PRVT). The table below summarizes election observations across the continent comparing the official results against the sampled audit of results. The audit trends are encouraging; however, elections can still be corrupted prior to ballots being cast through various means, including disenfranchisement, voter intimidation, and vote buying.
This table is not comprehensive of all independent election observations that have occurred in Africa. We are actively adding to the list as we gain access to more reports.
